The main event that many people are looking towards is the Super Bowl. People watch the Super Bowl for various reasons, for football, the halftime show, and the commercials shown throughout the game. The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the NFL (National Football League).

The teams for the 54th Super Bowl are the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. It will be played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, the home of The Dolphins on February 2nd, 2020. 

The San Francisco 49ers have won were the first to win five Super Bowls. They were considered “The Team of the Eighties” due to winning four Super Bowls in that decade. They have won in 1982, 1985, 1989, 1990, and 1995. 

The Kansas City Chiefs will appear at the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years. They beat The Minnesota Vikings 23-7 in Super Bowl IV. They have made 2 appearances in the Super Bowl, lost to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl I, but won The Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV.   

Important players to look out during the Super Bowl is Jimmy Garoppolo of the San Francisco 49ers and Patrick Mahomes II of Kansas City Chiefs. 

Junior Zakria Ghaffory believes “Well I think the Kansas City Chiefs will win due to their great offense and with Mahomes at quarterback. I’m certain they will win since they deserve it with last year’s defeat to the Patriots.”

The National Anthem will be sung by Demi Lovato.

Not only are people looking towards the Super Bowl, but they are also excited for the halftime show featuring artists, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Both are performing for the first time at the Super Bowl. 

This year’s halftime performance will be different due to having the artists perform at the Super Bowl for their first time. Due to both Lopez and Shakira being from the Latino community, they are speculated to bring more viewers from spanish-speaking countries.

Senior Jocelyn Villacreses stated “I’m a big fan of Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, I’m super excited to see their show and hopefully they sing some songs in Spanish together!”

Last year’s performers were Maroon 5 with guests Travis Scott and Big Boi. Super Bowl LII’s performers was Justin Timberlake. 

Super Bowl Commercials are important to many people, some are fun to watch. Many are making a debut like Facebook and the Hummus brand Sabra. Regulars will be there as well like Pepsi, Budlight, and Doritos. Many car brands will be shown as well like Porsche, Kia, Hyundai, and Audi. There were also be political commercials of President Donald Trump and Michael Bloomberg’s campaign for president. 

Junior Anthony Gonçalves says “ I tend to find some Super Bowl commercials funny.” Many new commercials will make their debut this year. “I have high expectations for the commercials” he also added. 

There are many predictions on who will win the Super Bowl, whether it’s the Kansas City Chiefs or the San Francisco 49ers.
