Jackson Olson and some Hatter followers

On Tuesday, December 7th, the Danbury Hatters head baseball coach Shaun Ratchford invited former New Milford shortstop Jackson Olson to speak to players. Jackson talked to the players discussing his journey as a baseball player, student-athlete, and life as well. Jackson Olson graduated from New Milford High School and went on to play collegiate baseball at both the University of Hartford and Stetson University. Jackson Olson was projected to be drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks, however, the COVID-19 outbreak shut down everyone’s world, especially Jackson’s.

After the world endured COVID, Jackson pursued making TikToks. Receiving notice from the MLB Creator Class, Jackson found himself becoming semi-popular on TikTok and was selected to be one of the ambassadors for their account. He would first start off traveling to MLB stadiums and trying and ranking their food.

This opportunity was huge for Jackson, and he would later receive an offer to play for the most entertaining team in baseball; the Savannah Bananas. The Bananas are both an entertainment team, and a baseball team as well. Like the Harlem Globetrotters, the Bananas perform tricks while playing baseball.

Jackson stated on Tuesday, “..if I were to receive an offer from an MLB team or the Bananas, I would choose the Bananas.” Jackson emphasized through his presentation how important it is to have fun playing baseball, especially in high school.

Jackson Olson’s story is certainly inspiring, his life after COVID was, like most, difficult to manage. Jackson gave the players advice for when on the field, in the weight room, and in the classroom as well. After his presentation, he answered questions from all players.

Meeting Jackson was certainly special, his story will have an impact on all, including coaches and players.
