The Danbury High School baseball team’s season came to a close on June 28th. This gave the team time to reflect on how they did and what they accomplished this year. They went 10-11-1, losing some important games in the last stretch.
A major player this season was junior Giani Chieffalo, who led the team with a batting percentage of .400. Also contributing is junior Brian Guerrero, with a slugging percentage of %0.578. Silvio D’Angelo described the season, saying, “[it was] good, could have been great but we did not execute.” When rating the season 1-10, Ryan Mcdermott and D’Angelo responded “5.”
Looking forward to what needs to be improved for next year, Mcdermott said, “Base running, signs, pitching is a problem, clutch performances executing the intangibles to make the game manageable, like coach says, ”practice like you play and play like you practice.”
Mcdermott and D’Angelo agreed that the 2 walk-offs against Staples and Brookfield were the highlights of the season. They also added that in the upcoming season, the record for the team will be 19-9.
Despite some seniors leaving, there is a lot to look forward to with the incoming freshmen. I guess we will wait and see the improvements and setbacks next season, and hopefully, we will see them win FCIACs.
