Marvel announced earlier this year that their new Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday, will be coming out in 2026, following the movie Avengers: Secret Wars. The MCU has been known to be tight-lipped about their projects, leaving room for critics and fans to speculate whether this new movie will meet their expectations or if it will become a flop, as seen in their other recent projects, such as The Eternals or The Marvels. Ever since Endgame came out as their greatest project, Marvel has seen a decrease in fans, expecting more, but left with disappointment.
As one fan Aiden Charolcy mentioned in an interview “The previous movies did not meet [his] expectations.”Many fans similar to Charolcy had expressed the same disappointment. He also added that “[he’s] excited for one part…that Robert Downey Jr. is Doctor Doom” but at the same time, he’s upset that it’s at the expense of his favorite superhero becoming a villain. Marvel keeps bringing in these new heroes and old ones as they have no newfound ideas of how to keep fans from coming back to watch their shows. Consequently, they bring back old characters that will reel in more viewers.
However while some fans have expressed their disappointment in the new Avengers movie, some are still holding tight to see if this new movie will satisfy them. Anoushka Mishra had previously stated that ”[she’s] very excited, it’s been a while…[she was] like, woah, that’s crazy.” Upon hearing the news about the new Marvel movie coming, Mishra is particularly excited about the return of the new Avengers movie and the different types of storylines that will unfold.
Nonetheless, Mishra acknowledged the unconventional casting choice of Robert Downey Jr. as a villain. She expressed her excitement and confidence in his ability to bring power and a great performance to his role “To think about, him as a villain there’s a potential of power there” she stated. While she recognized that it’s not his traditional type of role apart from Iron Man, she’s hopeful he will bring the character to life.
While some fans are less than enthusiastic about the upcoming Avengers movie, others remain hopeful for fresh and exciting storylines. Fans are still determining the outcome of the new movie or if it will surprise us with its comeback or leave us hanging. Only time will tell if this new movie will be a flop show or an incredible rebound.
