Once a year on a Thursday before Homecoming DHS hosts a movie night event open for students of all grade levels. This year they had students vote, and moved it to Friday after students reported that it’s more convenient to attend. The movie selected for this year by the BOG committee was the 1998 film Beetlejuice. The event started at 6:30 giving students ample time to get there and set up on the DHS field. This year it was 68 F, so many brought blankets and chairs to get comfortable. Students use this event to relax and have a nice time with their friends.
But some are divided on whether this event is worth attending, citing factors like the $7 ticket price. Zoe Lambert claimed “this was my first year, I wish it was inside but I have my jacket, so I’m good.” Lambert was there with her “bestie” to make memories with friends despite the cold. When asked about the movie choice Lambert claimed that “it is a classic and I like it. It’s worth it!”
Eva George, a senior, said “I went inside because it was cold. I wasn’t excited about the movie, I just went to see my friends.” Another movie would have been better in George’s opinion. Unfortunately the weather turned cold during the movie which made it uncomfortable for George to stay the whole time.Perhaps a movie inside could have been a better choice for George.
Technical difficulties marred the movie night as well. The movie was presented on an inflatable screen which took the teachers and safety advocates an hour to set up. George added that “at one point the screen started falling.”
In the end, there were mixed reactions to the movie night whether it was worth it or not.
