Joining a Photo club can be an exciting experience for students interested in photography. Whether you are a professional photographer or just learning, it can be a great way to indulge yourself in something you are passionate about.
In fact, Benjamin Shultz, the advisor of Danbury High School’s Photography Club, says he really became interested in photography once he started teaching it, stating, “I took some photography classes, I didn’t touch that much into strict photography.. Once I started teaching it to other people did I start to really like it myself.”
Students who are interested in photography can also join year-round. One of the primary benefits of joining Photo Club is that it’s a great opportunity for many hands-on activities. The club organizes many group outings, for instance on April 11, 2024 the club organized an excursion to take photos at the Save Our Schools Protests, Shultz said, “We once had several students go to a Save Our Schools protest, at city hall.. They got into the meeting and started to take pictures behind the mayor’s office, it was bold of them.”
Lucas Parhan, a student at DHS who was a part of the group outing that day, recalls it to be a very fun experience. When asked what he thought about the day he said, “It was really good.” Mr. Shultz added, “It was a very real world experience.”
Whether you are looking to learn new techniques, find inspiration, or simply share your passion with others, a Photo club can be an excellent resource. To any students interested, Mr. Shultz shared some exciting news: next year, the Photography Club will be merging together with Yearbook Club, but it will still be the same great club! So, if anyone is interested in joining, it’s still the Photo club at heart!
