In a world filled with stories waiting to be told, few people dare to embrace their dreams, such as a DHS student Retage Hussen. 

  How It Started 

From a young age, Hussen discovered her love for acting while sitting with her family every night, dreaming of being a star in the movies they watched together. This simple joy sparked a passion that grew stronger as she got older. When Hussen started high school, she decided to dive deeper into her dreams of becoming an actor and director. Danbury High School offered special acting classes that excited her, and she took every opportunity to learn more about the field. She studied the skills needed to perform on stage and behind the camera, eager to understand the art of storytelling through acting and directing. Hussen states “Once I got to high school, I was able to dive more into the field of acting because they offered acting classes.”

                                                                             Influences

An influence of Retage’s passion for acting was Soaad Hosni, A famous Egyptian actress who passed away. This actress influenced Hussen as she said,  “The way she performed on a set was enlightening and made me understand my passion.” Hussen believes that Soaad Hosni’s dedication to her craft and her ability to connect with her audience on a personal level is something that every actor should aspire to do. She brought a unique authenticity to her characters that resonated with viewers, earning her a beloved place in the hearts of many.  Watching movies and shows on TV for Retage was a major influence to her as she explains, “Watching movies and TV helps me understand how to express expressions in acting.” These influences struck Hussen to pursue her passion further in acting. Retage’s commitment to learning and growth propels her forward in her pursuit of becoming a multifaceted artist, keen on leaving her mark in both acting and directing. Retage’s family also encourages her career passion as they support and push her to achieve her passion in any way possible.
