The 67th Annual Grammy Awards, held on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, was a beautiful celebration of music’s biggest night. With performances, groundbreaking wins, and emotional moments, the night lived up to its reputation as the most prestigious event in the music industry.
Performances
The Grammys have always delivered show-stopping performances, and this year was no exception. Beyoncé and Jay-Z took the stage together for a powerful and inspiring performance. Rising star Olivia Rodrigo captivated the audience with her emotional rendition of “Vampire”, while Sabrina Carpenter brought a playful energy with her performances of “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please.” Chappell Roan also lit up the stage with a high-energy performance of “Pink Pony Club,” further cementing her place as a rising star.
Winners of the Night
The night belonged to Beyonce, who took home the prestigious Album of the Year Award for her album Cowboy Carter; this was her 11th nomination, and she was up against several artists, including Taylor Swift. Meanwhile, hip-hop veteran Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” swept all five categories nominated, including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Music Video. The Best New Artist award went to Chappell Roan, solidifying her place in the industry. “Alligator Bites Never Heal” by Doechii won Best Rap Album of the Year, making her the third woman to win this category.
Biggest Snubs
There were many highly deserved awards presented during the 2025 Grammy Awards, but there were also many worthy artists who weren’t awarded anything despite multiple nominations.
Billie Eilish is a prime example of someone who was overlooked, walking away from the 2025 Grammys empty-handed, even though she received 7 different Grammy Award nominations, including:
- Best Dance Pop Recording: “L’AMOUR DE MA VIE [OVER NOW EXTENDED EDIT]”
- Best Pop Solo Performance: “Birds of a Feather”
- Record of the Year: “Birds of a Feather”
- Best Pop Vocal Album: “Hit Me Hard and Soft”
- Song of the Year: “Birds of a Feather”
- Best Pop Duo/Group Performance: “Guess” remix by Charli XCX
- Album of the Year: “Hit Me Hard and Soft”
One specific award most were almost certain Eilish would win was Album of the Year, but instead, Beyoncés Album, Cowboy Carter won. and were skeptical about this since Cowboy Carter’s most played song only had 619 million plays, while “Hit Me Hard and Soft” most played song streamed 2 billion times.
Surprisingly, Taylor Swift also left the Grammys empty-handed, despite receiving 6 nominations for her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, which had 176 billion streams.
Memorable Moments
One of the most unforgettable moments of the night was Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s surprise collaboration—their first joint performance in years. Their emotional duet paid tribute to Los Angeles and those affected by recent wildfires, helping raise funds for relief efforts. Charli XCX delivered another standout moment with a stage set designed to recreate the atmosphere of a European warehouse party, bringing an electrifying energy to the night.
The Weeknd also triumphantly returned to the Grammy stage after boycotting the awards in 2021. He had previously accused the Recording Academy of corruption and a lack of transparency. However, following significant reforms that improved diversity and voting fairness, he decided to return. His performances of Timeless and Cry for Me were widely praised, marking a victorious comeback.
Looking Ahead
As the music world looks to the future, the 2025 Grammy Awards proved once again that diversity, innovation, and artistic excellence are at the heart of the industry. With emerging artists making their mark and established legends continuing to inspire, the music industry undoubtedly has a bright future.
