The spring lacrosse season has officially begun, and Danbury High School’s girls lacrosse team is ready to make a statement. With a mix of new talent on the field, the team is preparing for a season of challenges and a rise to success. As the team enters the field for the new season, there is a lot of excitement brewing among the teammates.
Lacrosse player Cassidy Hammel is a junior at DHS and is a goalie for the team. Hammel is now entering her second season for the team and when asked what makes lacrosse so enjoyable she says, “I like lacrosse because it’s a community, we all help each other and are like a family on the field.. We have so many fun traditions like the preseason pasta party and postseason pasta party.” Hammel makes it clear how important it is to have a community and be able to lean on one another during hard times on and off the field.
The team started off the season strong; they had their first home game on Saturday, April 5th, where they beat Immaculate High School – the score being 15-5, beating them by an extra 10 points. This team is led by teacher and coach Stephanie Spiridon. Hammel says that, “Coach is a fantastic leader; she knows everyone on the team and cares for them so deeply.” Having a good coach is crucial for a team to strive, they not only bring guidance to the team, but they also support, motivate, and help improve skills in a structural way. A coach can pinpoint places for improvement and provide strategies of growth.
Speaking of growth strategies, the team has a lot of preparations before the season. They are provided with many clinics which take place in short sessions that are designed to help students improve a variety of skills like catching, throwing, passing, shooting, dodging, and defending. This helps students get an opportunity to grow in their skills before entering another great season.
The next game is going to be a home game this Thursday. With dedication and support from the school community, the Danbury High School’s girls lacrosse team is going to strive for another unforgettable spring season. To keep up with important dates, the team has their official schedule on their instagram danburygirlslax. These girls are ready to bring their best for the next game and are ready to make this season unmatched.
