At Danbury High School, students across all grades are slipping into Crocs — not just as a fashion choice, but as a symbol of comfort, convenience, and creativity.
Once mocked as clunky or uncool, Crocs have become a go-to footwear option for numerous students. Whether decorated with colorful Jibbitz or styled with socks, Crocs are now a staple in the halls of DHS, offering not just ease but an unexpected form of self-expression.
For many students, the reason behind the trend is simple: comfort. “They’re comfortable,” says sophomore Ana Granados, whose classic & simple Croc style reflects a no-fuss approach to fashion. Junior Leisha Sutradhar agrees, calling them “very convenient and comfortable,” especially when she’s in a rush to get to school.
Freshman Brigette Siguenza takes it a step further, explaining that Crocs are “similar to slippers” and that wearing regular shoes in a big building like DHS is “already bad,” so the opportunity to wear Crocs feels like a small win. She adds that Crocs allow for individuality: “You’ll always see the same shoes, but Crocs you can customize with Jibbitz, and most people have a backstory with why they picked them.”
That spirit of creativity is echoed by sophomore Eva Kennedy, who proudly rocks glittery Crocs and says, “They’re pretty comfy, easy to put on and take off, and they go with most of my outfits.” She even gets compliments for them and embraces her sparkle-loving style. “I love my sparkly ones,” she said, “but I don’t know what that says about me.”
The personalization factor, especially through Jibbitz charms, plays a huge role in why so many students say Crocs reflect personality. “Crocs could say something about someone’s personality because it could mean many reasons, like chill or fun,” shared freshman Karen Chalco. That theme carries through in Sydney Radachowsky’s comment: “Jibbitz can show someone’s personality/interests.”
While some students only wear them occasionally, Crocs moments seem to leave lasting memories — from jokes about camo Crocs being invisible, to shoes flying off during sprints down the hallway. Radachowsky mentioned switching into “sport mode” during gym or when running, while Rania recalled her Crocs falling off while she was running. And Granados, like many, noted how “a lot of people trip over them going up the stairs.”
Despite occasional Croc mishaps, their popularity shows no sign of slowing down. From glitter to camo, from classic to chaotic, Crocs are more than just a comfy shoe. At DHS, they’ve become a quiet yet colorful movement.
As summer approaches and comfort becomes key, don’t be surprised if the sound of Crocs slapping down the halls becomes even more common — one chill, charm-covered step at a time.
