Nick Fraticelli, coach of the Girls Indoor Track team, has been named “Coach of the Year” by the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference.

The veteran coach, who is often seen running around town with his team, was also named among the FCIAC Coaches of Excellence for the fall and winter seasons.

“It is a nice recognition to get, but really this is a validation of the positive culture of the team as well as the diligence that the girls on the Track & Field team exemplify each and every day,” Fraticelli said. “I would also like to thank the boys coaches for their collegiality and helpfulness, and congratulate the boys team on their significant accomplishments this season as well as in the past.”

In addition to Fraticelli’s awards, five other DHS coaches were recognized as “Coaches of Excellence: Rob Murray, Boys Cross Country and Boys Indoor Track; Sean Colley, Boys Soccer; Ricky Shook, Wrestling; Casey Bock, Boys Basketball; and Joann Tatarzycki, Cheerleading.

Both the Boys and Girls Indoor Track teams took state titles in the LL Indoor Championships. The Wrestling team, with its 18-0 record, won its 29th FCIAC title in 30 years.

The Boys Basketball team placed first in the FCIAC Western Division after a 22-3 season. Boys Soccer finished first in FCIAC Western Division with an 11-2-3 record.

The Hatters Cheerleaders took third this year in the FCIAC championships and were runner-up in the state LL.

“These coaches are not only some of the very best in the FCIAC, they also are considered to be some of the best in Connecticut,” said Athletics Director Chip Salvestrini. “We are very proud of the recognition they have received and fortunate to have as members of the DHS coaching community.”
