  • The Hatters Cafe will be CLOSED Periods 5 and 6 Today for a private group.  
  • Due to unfortunate circumstances the annual GSA Dance is canceled. Please stop by D277 for a full refund. Keep the spirit and plan to attend next school year.
  • The Black Lives Matter Club will be holding a 3v3 Basketball Tournament in the gym on Friday, June 8th at 3PM. Pick up and drop off your registration form and $5 for each player in the cafeteria or room D371a with Mr. Shafer to play. Attendees not playing must pay $2 at the door, or $1 with a student ID.
  • Seniors: You must have any cafeteria balance, outstanding library fines, parking fines and class dues paid in full in order to receive your cap and gown for graduation.

  • Thursday, June 14th is the last day for after school credit recovery and is the last opportunity for students to take their final in credit recovery courses.  
  • Sports physicals are required to try out for DHS teams. The physical needs to be current for the whole season and may not expire during the season. Physicals are available in the School-Based health Center during the following weeks: July 2-6,  July 16-20 and July 23-27. Please call 203-790-2886 to schedule an appointment. There is no out of pocket cost to the family.
  • ESL AP Spanish Independent Study. A special presentation is scheduled today after school in room D371 for ESL students who took the AP Spanish exam as an independent study. Students will learn about the AP Computer Science class offered at Danbury High School. All ESL students are encouraged to attend.   • Girls Golf AWAY @ the C.I.A.C. Girls Golf Championships at Tashua Knolls – 8:30 – bus leaves at 6:30

Sports news

  • Congratulations to the girls’ track & field team for their third place finish at the State Open Championships yesterday. Lauren Moore was second in the 1600 running 4:59 and Celyna Custodio was second in the shot put. The 4×800 team of Cassandra Sturdevant, Alex Chakar, Olivia Turk and Leah Sarkisian placed third with a season best time of 9:22. Erika Regus was also 6th in the long jump with a personal best of 17-4.
  • A big congratulations to our boys’ track and field team who captured the Connecticut State Open Outdoor Track and Field Championship yesterday.  The team was lead by State Open individual event champions Nathaniel Llanos in the pole vault, Dan Nichols in the 2 mile, and the 4×400 relay team of Glenroy Ford, Phillip Melo, Malcolm Going, and Sean Michael Parkinson.  The team heads to New Hampshire next for the New England Championships.

Sports news

  • Congratulations to the girls track and field team for winning the state class LL championship. The team was led by Lauren Moore’s double win in the 1600, 3200. Lauren smashed her own school record running 4:58 in the 1600. Celyna Custodio also got second place in the discus and shot put. The team is in action next at the state open championship on Monday June 4th.
  • The boys Track and Field teams captured the State Class LL Championship last night.  The team scored 83.50 points to beat Manchester and Staples who tied with 64. Individual State Champions were Sean Michael Parkinson in the 200, Dan Nichols in the 2 mile, and the 4×400 team of Phillip Melo, Glenroy Ford, Malcolm Going and Sean Michael Parkinson.  The 4×400 set a Class LL State record. Congratulations to all of our team members.

  • Congratulations to the boys’ tennis team.  For the first time in school history, the Hatterss qualified for the CIAC state tournament. 
  • The boys’ track team qualified 2 relays team last night on the Hatters home track. The Swedish Relay team of Chris Cledera, Jaden Cazorla, Nathaniel Mensah-Simms and Sean Michael Parkinson qualified.  The other relay team that qualified was the Sprint Medley team of Malik Thomas, Phillip Melo, Malachi Lorick and Glenroy Ford.

Sports news

  • The boys’ track team won the FCIAC Championships yesterday scoring 136 points over 15 teams.  This was the team’s 5th outdoor FCIAC championship in a row and 17 of the past 20 years. The team competed hard in all 18 events and were lead by Sean Michael Parkinson winning the 200m, Dan Nichols winning the 3200m and Nathaniel Llanos winning the pole vault. 
  • The girls’ track and field team won its third consecutive FCIAC Championship in outdoor track and field. The team was paced by Celyna Custodio’s double wins in the shot put and discus, Meilee Kry’s runner up performances in long and triple jump. Also the 4×100 won and the 4×800 relay placed second as did Shanell Stewart in the 100.

  • Senior Prom is Friday, May 25 from 7 pm – midnight at the Amber Room.  The theme is Arabian Nights. Today is the last day tickets will be sold. They can be purchased in D460 per 1-3 and in the cafeteria during all lunch periods. Ticket price is $75 and that includes appetizers, a full dinner, dessert, a french fry bar and drinks for the night.  There will be fire-eaters/ fire breathers and Arabian Dancers. To buy a ticket, your dues must be paid. Dues are $25 for each year you attend DHS and also cover the cost of your cap and gown.

  • Congratulations to the girls track and field team who beat Ridgefield 95-50 yesterday. The team finished the regular season undefeated for the third year in a row. Congratulations, ladies!
  • The boys track team beat Ridgefield yesterday 106 to 44 to finish the regular season undefeated at 9 wins.  The team was lead by Captain Nathaniel Llanos who won the pole vault with a jump of 14 feet and Nathaniel Mensah who won the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

  • Attention any Senior who is interested in auditioning for the  senior speeches should stop by the Main Office Conference room for an information sheet tomorrow Wednesday May 16th right after school. If you can’t make the meeting, please see any of the 4 assistant principals and give them your name. The auditions will be next Wednesday, May 23rd.

  • The fishing club had its first tournament event of the season Saturday.  Co- captains Ryan Dilillo and Tony Abrantes placed third out of 21 other high schools competing in the event opener.  With a maximum of 5 fish, their combined total bagged weight was 15 lbs 11 ounces. Their next fishing event in the tournament will be in June.

  • Senior Prom is May 25 from 7-midnight at the Amber Room in Danbury.  The theme is Arabian Nights and tickets will be sold May 15-18 in the cafeteria and on May 21 in D460. Ticket price is $75 and that includes appetizers, a full dinner, dessert, a french fry bar and drinks for the night.  There will be fire-eaters/fire breathers and Arabian Dancers.To buy a ticket, your dues must be paid.   • The boys’ track team remains undefeated with 8 wins with wins of previously undefeated Trumbull 93-57 and against Stamford 150-0.   The team was lead by Eric Collado winning the 2 mile in 10 minutes and 14 seconds. Nathaniel Mensah won both the 110 high hurdles and 300 intermediate hurdle races and anchored the winning 4×400 relay team.

  • Congratulations to the girls’ track & field team for its victory at the 38th annual O’Grady Relay this past weekend. The team was led by Meilee Kry’s state-leading performance in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 1.5 inches. The team also recorded wins in the sprint medley relay, shot put, long jump, and was second in the 4×100, distance medley relay.

  • The boys’ track team secured a win yesterday as the team beat Darien 103-47.  The team was lead by strong performances by captains Nathaniel Llanos winning and clearing 13 feet 7 inches in the pole vault, Sean Michael Parkinson winning the 400m and 200m and Chris Cledera winning the 100m and Long Jump.  The team is now undefeated with 4 wins.

  • The Youth Power Club in association with Connecticut Students for a Dream has a forum today to discuss with legislators how we can support our immigrant students in Danbury. This includes current proposals that would equalize access to higher education for immigrant students. If you are a student or teacher who would like to support these students in their mission to protect our immigrant students, please come to the meeting.   • The Youth Power Club in association with Connecticut Students for a Dream has a forum to discuss with legislators how we can support our immigrant students in Danbury. This includes current proposals that would equalize access to higher education for immigrant students. If you are a student or teacher who would like to support these students in their mission to protect our immigrant students, please come to the meeting. Sports news

  • The girls’ track and field team yesterday won its first dual meet of the season over New Canaan 124-12. The Hatters were led by triple winner Celyna Custodio in the Javelin, Shot Put and Discus. Also, Meilee Kry won the high jump at 4-8 and the long jump with a jump of 17 feet -2.75 inches. Sarah Johnson also won the 1600 with a time of 5:37 and the 3200 with a time of 12:22. Great job, ladies.

  • The SAT — originally scheduled to be administered today — will now be administered on April 24. This day is no longer early release for the district and department meetings will be held at 2:20 p.m. after regular dismissal.  April 25 will be the SAT makeup day and so Instructional Rounds will be canceled. We are rescheduling the NEASC presentation that was originally scheduled for April 24th during early release and will let everyone know the new date once we receive it.

  • Congratulations to the Girls’ Track & Field team that competed this past weekend at the New Balance Indoor National Championships in NYC. The Distance Medley Relay team of Cassandra Sturdevant, Olivia Turk, Leah Sarkisian, and Lauren Moore finished 13th in the nation with a time of 12:17. The 4×800 also ran a season-best time of 9:34. The Sprint Medley Relay team of Natalee Seipio, Meilee Kry, Leah Sarkisian, Cassandra Sturdevant finished 13th in the country with a state best time of 4:11.71. The 4×200 team of Erika Regus, Natalee Seipio, Meilee Kry, and Jessica Glowacki finished 31st in the 4×200 with a time of 1:47.45.
  • The Boys’ Track & Field team won the Sprint Medley on Saturday during the New Balance Indoor National Championships in NYC. The team consists of Malachi Lorick, Glenroy Ford, Sean-Michael Parkinson and Malcolm Going. Their time was a school-, FCIAC- and Connecticut State-record. Going also finished 8th in the country in the 800m, running a school- and FCIAC-record. Dan Nichols ran the 5000m race, running the No. 4 time in school history.

  • Congratulations to the Wrestling team on its 3rd place finish in New Englands with Ryan Jack winning an individual title, AJ Kovacs took 3rd and Gino Baratta 4th.
  • Congratulations to the Boys’ Track team and Malcolm Going, who won the New England Championship 600m this weekend in a new school record time.  The 4×400 team of Going, Malalchi Lorick, Glenroy Ford and Sean Michael Parkinson also won.  
  • Congratulations to the Girls’ Track team, which competed in the New England Championships this past weekend in Boston. The team was led by Lauren Moore’s school-record performance in the mile. Lauren ran 5:05.31 and finished 4th. Leah Sarkisian was 6th in the 600. The two earned All-New England honors in the process. Also, Cassandra Sturdevant finished 14th in the 1000 running 3:03, which was a personal best. Meilee Kry competed in the long jump, jumping 16-6.

  • Congratulations to the Girls’ Track & Field team for winning the Dream Big Pentathlon. The team was lead by Leah Sarkisian’s winning performance in the 1000, running 3:06; Celyna Custodio won the shot put, and Cassandra Studevant was 4th in the 1500 with a time of 4:58.34. The team is in action again Saturday at the New England Championships. Any girls interested in outdoor track & field this spring should go to D474 to see Coach Fraticelli.
  • Congratulations to the Wrestling team for winning the State Open Championship this weekend. Ryan Jack and AJ Kovacs took home individual titles along with a 3rd place finish by Gino Baratta. The team had three additional place finishers. The Hatters outscored their opponents by more than 50 points. This weekend, four wrestlers will move on to the New England Championships.
  • Congratulations to the Boys’ Swim team on its win over Wilby on Friday — 74-70. The team won nine races with two 1st-place finishes each by Daniel Simmons, James Lukasik and Micah Chen, and a 1st by Nathan Gottwals. The team also won two relays with Lukasik, Chen, Daniel Simmons and Andrew Simmons leading the charge.

  • Congratulations to the girls’ track & field team, which placed second at the State Open Championships on Saturday. The team was led by outstanding performances from Cassandra Sturdevant, who was second in the 1000 meters in 3:04.12; Leah Sarkisian, who was 5th in the 600 with a time of 1:37.21; Celyna Custodio, who was third in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet 8 inches; Meilee Kry, who was 5th in the long jump with a jump of 17 feet and one half inch; and Lauren Moore’s school record performance in the 1600 with a time of 5:07.21, which won the State Open Championship. Lauren also finished fourth in the 3200 with an outstanding time of 11:20.  
  • Congratulations to the Hatters Wrestling team, which won the State LL title this weekend with a team score of 275. There were 5 individual title winners as well as 6 additional place finishers. The boys move on to the State Opens this coming weekend with their eye on a second consecutive team title.
  • Congratulations to the boys’ indoor track & field team, which won the CT State Open team championship this past Saturday  The team was lead with Malcolm Going winning the 600m in a school record time, Nathaniel Llanos was 2nd in the pole vault, Dan Nichols was 2nd in the two mile.  Sean Michael Parkinson, Glenroy Ford, Malachi Lorick and Malcolm Going won the 4×400 relay and was 2nd in the 4×200 relay.

  • The wrestling team continues their FCIAC dominance with their 8th straight title! Congratulations go to the whole team led by individual title holders, Gino Baratta, AJ Kovacs, Ryan Jack, Ben LeBlanc and Liam Knight. 
  • Congratulations to the girls track & field team on their second place finish at the State Class LL championship on Saturday. The team was led by Lauren Moore’s victories in the 1600, 3200 in times of 5:10, 11:13.  
  • The boys Indoor Track and Field team ran, hurdled, jumped and threw their way to the State Class LL Championship Saturday.  This was the 5th consecutive title for our track program!  Malcolm Going won the individual 600m tittle, Sean Michael Parkinson, Malcolm Going, Glenroy Ford and Malachi Lorick won both the 4×200 and 4×400 relays.

The team won the FCIAC cheerleading championship this past Saturday and had the highest score out of all divisions, earning them the grand champion award. In addition, congratulations to Sydnei Brimage, Lauryn Menzie and Aryanna DaSilva for making the All-FCIAC team, which is comprised of the top 20 cheerleaders from all of the teams combined.
  •  Three DHS Band students were named to the All-State Band over the weekend. After competing with thousands of students from throughout Connecticut, juniors Jacob Laham and Micah Chen as well as sophomore Brady Callaghan will perform in the All-State concert this May.

  • Feb. 5th, 1994, white supremacist Byron de la Beckwith was convicted of civil rights activist Medgar Evers’ murder, more than thirty years after he was shot in the back from ambush. Evers was the state’s field secretary for the NAACP. He recruited members throughout Mississippi and organized voter-registration efforts, demonstrations, and economic boycotts of white-owned companies that practiced discrimination. He also worked to investigate crimes perpetrated against blacks, most notably the lynching of Emmett Till, a 14-year-old boy who had been killed for talking to a white woman.

  • The Girls’ Indoor Track & Field team won the FCIAC Western Division Championship Saturday. The team was led by strong performances in all event groups. The Lady Hatters are in action next at Thursday’s FCIAC championship meet.
  • The Boys’ Indoor Track & Field team won the FCIAC Western Division Championship Saturday.  The team was lead by individual events winners: Nathaniel Llanos winning the pole vault, Sean Michael Parkinson winning the 300m, Nathaniel Mensah-Simms winning the 55 hurdles, Jaden Corzorla winning the 55m, and Malcolm Going winning the 600m.

  • Congratulations to the girls’ Track & Field team for its performances at the Yale Classic last weekend. The Distance Medley relay team of Alex Chakar, Olivia Turk, Cassandra Sturdevant, and Lauren Moore finish fifth and ran the No. 10 time in the country this season. Celyna Custodio finished third in the shot put and the 4×200 meter relay team of Erika Regus, Meilee Kry, Natalee Seipio and Jessica Glowacki finished second and ran the No. 2 time in the state.
