Right after the SATs the AP test will take place, the AP test is a standardized test taken by high school students in the United States and Canada. The test is designed to measure a student’s mastery of a particular subject of their choosing, to determine whether they are eligible to receive college credit for that subject while in high school. These college credits can help students skip certain classes in college which saves time and money. However, the pressure to earn a passing score on AP tests can negatively affect students. In some cases, students may feel pressured to take multiple AP classes, even if they are not interested in or passionate about the subjects. This can lead to burnout and stress, as students juggle a heavy workload and struggle to keep up with the rigorous coursework. This is so they can improve their college resume and increase their chance of acceptance. Sophomore Jenna Saltzmen says, “I’m nervous that the test is near in date and I’ve been preparing by attending flex with my teachers, reviewing past quizzes and tests, and reading the textbook.” While familiarizing oneself with the material is good, students should purchase practice tests to familiarize themselves with similar content that is going to be on their tests. Every AP class has its requirements for tests, sophomore Henry Chen, an AP World History student states, “AP World is a rather challenging class that forces me to focus on each of the individual units, from 1200- the present. Also, I’m going to start preparing at the start of April by reviewing the previous lessons that we have completed and by revising the textbook and resources that we were given at the beginning of the school year and all of this is vital to my success in the course and on the test.” There is indeed lots of information to memorize and to do on the test from multiple choices, image analyses, to two-page long essays all impacted within 2-3 hours. Junior Mario Fuentes states, “As the test day gets sooner I find more ways to prepare and gain college credits.” To certain people, the AP test is more than a way to improve their college resume, it’s also a way to save money, skip classes and move ahead in their course. According to AP Stats teacher Jude Pascarelli, “Students should look at supplemental courses like a person looks at old practice material on College Board and look up past FRQs to get an understanding of the material.” As said before students have been studying and reviewing just like Mr. Pascarelli said, either for months or weeks on end. The AP test is taking place right after the SAT and those taking the test should start studying ASAP.
