The NFL Combine is more than just a scouting event where the next generation of football stars prove their worth. The Combine is held annually in Indianapolis, The combine gathers top college prospects for a series of physical tests, interviews, and skill drills that can make or break their draft stock. Good and bad performances are going to happen. A standout performance can either make a mid round prospect into a first round prospect and a bad performance can make a first round prospect into a mid round prospect.
Danbury High School Varsity football Coach, Coach Terri watched the combine in person. I was lucky enough to interview him and ask a few questions that I know a lot of people would have wanted answers for. One of the biggest questions I asked was How does he think Jah Joyner did? ” He replied saying “very happy about his performance and recording a 4.6s 40 time” Joyner dropped the fourth fastest 40 time by a DE/Edge, hopefully boosting his draft stock. Terri ended that question with saying that he hopes the best for Joyner and any NFL team that takes Joyner will be getting a stud.
I also asked Terri “what do you think is the most important concept of the combine” Terri stated that he thinks that the 40 time is the most important due to the fact that coaches are evaluating speed and acceleration since the game of football consists of short time speed. I asked terri if there is a skill or test he thinks is the most important for evaluating talent. He said that the way the players answer question and interviews is important to increase or decrease your draft stock.
