Nicolly Cavalli’s Top 10 Halloween movies

Halloween is right around the corner and it’s movie season. These are my favorite Halloween movies.

  1. Scream (1996)

★★★★★

One of my favorite horror movies is a great movie with a great plot and  twists. To me, Scream is somewhat of a mystery as well because you end up engaging with the characters trying to find out who is behind the mask. In the movie, the sleepy little town of Woodsboro is the target of Ghostface. The killer in their midst has seen a few too many scary movies. Suddenly nobody is safe, as the psychopath stalks victims, taunts them with trivia questions, then kills them

  1. Scary Movie (1-5) (2000-2013)

★★★★★

This movie series is one of my favorites! It’s hilarious and it’s not super scary. The creators of the film series (the Wayans Brothers) have made a concept of taking popular and lesser known movies and creating parodies of them. Each movie could have 3 or more movies incorporated. One of the best parts of watching the film series is guessing what movies are gonna be next. The series can be vulgar. It is a great movie series to watch with friends and have a good time.

  1. Halloweentown (1998)

★★★★✩

Halloweentown is a childhood favorite that I just couldn’t leave out. A movie about Marnie and her siblings who discover that grandma is from a different universe and that they come from a line of witches. The town is the only place where supernatural beings can lead a `normal’ life, but trouble is coming, and on her 13th birthday Marnie not only finds she is a witch, but that she and her family are involved in a fight against the evil that is threatening to take over the world.

  1. Boo ! A Madea Halloween (2016)

★★★★★

A comedy Halloween movie. Any Madea movie is amazing, but I’ve laughed so much throughout the movie. For those who like a good comedy, Boo ! A Madea Halloween is the way to go.Trying to win the approval of her friends, 17-year-old Tiffany sneaks out of the house to go to a Halloween bash at a fraternity. The fun soon ends when police and the cranky, fast-talking Madea arrive to crash the party. Unhappy with this sudden turn of events, the vengeful undergrads decide to scare Madea and her cronies with a series of pranks. She soon finds herself under attack and on the run from an assortment of ghosts, ghouls and zombies on the scariest night of the year.

  1. The Conjuring (2016)

★★★★✩

A movie that truly scared me; The Conjuring is definitely a movie to grab a scare from you. The movies are based on true stories, the latest movie being based in Brookfield. The first conjuring is easily the scariest story. The investigative couple, Ed and Loraine Warren,  investigate the Perron Family who  recently moved into a farmhouse, where a supernatural presence  made itself known.  In the beginning nothing was found but events quickly escalate in horrifying fashion, especially after the Warrens discover the house’s macabre history.

  1. Corpse Bride (2005)

★★★★✩

One of my favorite classic Tim Burton films, Corpse Bride has been becoming more and more popular this year. Corpse Bride is about an arranged marriage between Victor and Victoria. While he’s in a forest practicing his lines for the wedding, a tree branch becomes a hand that drags him to the land of the dead. It belongs to Emily, who was murdered after eloping with her love and wants to marry Victor. Yet, Victor has to make it to the living before Victoria marries the villain.

7.  Friday the 13th (2009)

★★★✩✩

Friday the 13th is an Americana American classic slasher film. A group of teenagers go to Camp Crystal Lake to reopen the camp for the summer after years of failed attempts. What they don’t know is that once upon a time, a little boy drowned there because the counselors didn’t pay attention. That boy was Jason Voorhees, and now someone seeks revenge for his death on his birthday Friday the 13th and the unsuspecting new teens now camp consaluers are his target.

  1. Hocus Pocus (1993)

★★★✩✩

Another aboslute classic. Hocus Pocus has been playing on my TV since I could remember. Based in Salem,MA,  Max Dennison explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani and their new friend, Allison. Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches who used to live in the house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal.

  1. The Amityville Horror (1979)

★★★✩✩

Somewhat of a gruesome movie, the Amityville Horror is also based on a true crime story.  Ronald DeFeo Jr. shot and killed six members of his family and soon blamed it on the house. After they move in with their kids, they find out the cheap price tag is thanks to the house’s haunting history: The former tenant murdered his family after supposedly being possessed by the devil. Believing the home is haunted, the couple find a priest to help them rid the place of evil spirits.

  1. Child’s Play (1998)

★★✩✩✩

The movie itself is a classic, but soon loses its charm.  The film mainly focuses on Chucky, a notorious serial killer who frequently escapes death by performing a voodoo ritual to transfer his soul into a “Good Guys” doll. The movie starts off in 1988 and is getting gunned down by Detective Mike Norris, dying murderer Charles Lee Ray uses black magic to put his soul inside a doll named Chucky which ends up getting into the hands of young Andy. When Chucky kills Andy’s babysitter, the boy realizes the doll is alive and tries to warn people, but his mom believes he’s crazy and puts him in the mental hospital. Now Karen must convince the detective of the murderous doll’s intentions, before Andy becomes Chucky’s next victim.
