The Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL are looking to repeat the last two seasons, with an early 21 wins and 13 losses ratio. The stats show they are second in runs with 105, 1st in OPS with .854, best overall team average with .283, and 1 in total bases and home runs.
The AL has no clear frontrunner as 5 teams have 10 or more wins, with the highest being the Yankees and Rays with 23 and 22 wins. Only 5 of the 15 teams in the AL don’t have ten wins. The AL is looking to be decent, but the NL is looking to be the stronger conference again, with 3 teams all having better records than anyone in the American League.
With the NL having most teams over .500 by a good margin, the AL top teams seem to just be floating along .500. Ultimately, the NL is looking more playoff-ready.
The players who were expected to do well are doing well, such as Aaron Judge, Vladimir Guerrero, Shohei Ohtani, and Mike Trout. Nevertheless, some rookies and below-average players are starting their season off with all-star intentions. Munetaka Murakami is a prime example, being on pace to have 64 home runs.
Many fans have thoughts on the start of the season. Baseball fan Ryan MacKinnon explained, “The season has been off to a good start, but kind of the same teams being good and the same being bad, not much unexpected success.”
While there are teams like the Red Sox having an unexpected down year, with the Phillies, teams like the Braves and Rays are doing great.
The teams expected to be good are the Yankees and Dodgers, who are both top teams in the league, and are projected to remain at the top. Even with injuries and slumps, these two teams usually find their way to the postseason while maintaining dangerous rosters.
With the season still early, anything could happen, especially when it comes to injuries. Players like Ronald Acuna Jr are already on IR with a hamstring strain, while Tarik Skubal is dealing with an undisclosed injury. Though fans hope stars stay healthy, injuries are an unavoidable part of every season.
Yankees fan Anthony Valenzuela explained, “The injuries are the worst part of the sport. To see players having a good season and then being in recovery is hard to see.” As hard as it is to see this happen to players, the fans still stay loyal and hope their team gets to take it all home.
Despite the setbacks, most fans are simply happy that baseball is back, no matter what team they support. MacKinnon believes in “staying loyal to your team, there’s room for improvement throughout the long season.”
