Rising gas prices are beginning to affect students at Danbury High school and their families. Students say the increase has made transportation more stressful and expensive especially for families that rely on driving to school and work everyday.
James Gassner, a senior at Danbury High school that drives regularly explained that now their family spends so much more money on gas than last year. Since gas prices have risen , they try not to drive, unless it is necessary. Gassner also said that balancing a part-time job has become more difficult because short work shifts sometimes do not feel worth the cost of driving. “ Sometimes I wonder if it’s even worth driving there for shorter shifts because of how expensive gas is,” Gassner said.
Another senior Andrew Cervantes that drives frequently shared that their family plans trips more carefully to avoid wasting fuel. They also mentioned that their family often drives farther just to find cheaper gas stations. According to the students the extra money spent on gas has left families with less money for other needs and activities
Many students believe gas prices have increased quickly over the past few years. While there is alternative free transportation for students, like the bus, some students have do not schedules, which means they lose access to the school bus, which forces them to drive to school. Students say the rising cost has become a significant inconvenience that not only affects them, but their families.
