The Staples Wreckers beat the Danbury Hatters in Westport, CT on October 14th, 42-21 to come victorious in their homecoming games, with Staples starting the first half with a 35-0 lead.

Staples QB Caleb Smith led the Wreckers, going 13/22 on completion, 224 yards, and 2 TDs to cap it off. Staple’s Alex Fiala rushed for 121 yards on 19 carries for 2 TDs as well.

Danbury’s scores came from Jayden Leroy (JR/DB) who returned a second-half kickoff for 85 yards which put the Hatters on the board for the first time. Leroy also caught a pass for a TD as well. Senior Cushan Perkins found himself in the endzone as well from passes from John Bardin. Despite those 2 TDs, the Junior quarterback threw 2 INTs that led to Staples’s touchdowns.

Danbury (3-2) has now lost 2 straight games and is looking to end that losing streak this Friday night vs. Westhill.

This upcoming Friday will also be Danbury’s homecoming game. After Westhill, some of the teams the Hatters will be facing are top in the FCIAC and the state. These teams include; Greenwich, Ridgefield, and Trumbull. Victories against these competitors will also call for a winning record, the first since 2014
