THURSDAY, MARCH 10, 2016

In accordance with a proclamation by President Obama, flags will be lowered to half-staff to honor former first lady Nancy Reagan who died on Sunday at age 94. Her husband Ronald Reagan, was the 40th president of the United States, serving from 1981 to 1989. President Reagan died in 2004.

  • Come one, come all to the Murder Mystery on March 11th at Anthony’s Lake Club, sponsored by the Hatters’ Foundation. Enjoy a buffet dinner, murder mystery and silent auction. Among the auction items are several restaurant certificates, sports memorabilia, prom tickets, play tickets, a yearbook, and student parking pass. Tickets can be purchased at the security booth or from Mr. Holmes, Mr. Watkins, or Mr. Bocaccio.
  • Attention ESL Seniors who are planning on attending college or vocational school next year: the ESL Higher Education Scholarship deadline is Friday, March 11th. To apply, please see school counselors Mrs. DeMoura or Ms. Rodriguez.
  • All girls interested in trying out for the Girls Golf Team please attend a meeting in D482 today. We will meet from 2:00 – 2:30. Any questions, please see Coach Boucher.
  • This is a reminder that “The DHS Student Recognition Awards” are due to your counselor by this Friday, March 11th.
  • There will be a meeting for all girls who want to try out for Outdoor Track and Field in the old gym from 2:05-2:20 today. If you cannot make it please see Coach Fraticelli in D474.
  • The Gamers Association will be meeting tomorrow in D264 after school.
  • There will be a mandatory Boys Tennis meeting tomorrow after school in the Career Center. Please see Mr. Boucher if you are unable to attend.
  • There will be a Leo Club meeting tomorrow in D369. All members must attend.
  • All students must have a pass and their student ID to be seen by the nurse.
  • Detention next week will be held on Monday and Thursday. There will be no detention on Wednesday, March 16th.
  • The Fight Child Hunger Club will meet today, Thursday, March 10th in room D-371 from 2:10 – 3:00 p.m. All are welcomed! For more information, contact Ms. Bilbao or Ms. Domercant.   • Keep up-to-date with DHS news at hattersherald.com. We are now producing short videos in which we interview students and faculty about current topics. This week, we posted a story updating on the progress of the DECO. We’ve also added our twitter feed and a photo gallery to the website. Come visit and let us know how we are doing.

  • There will be a “Rollin’ for Justin” wheely chair basketball game Friday, March 11 sponsored by Peer Leadership. Please sign up your team of 4 today in C338. The team fee is $16.00 and all funds raised will benefit paraplegic patients. The winning team will receive a gift card.
  • There will be a Girls Softball meeting today in 2:15 in the Cafeteria.
  • All girls interested in trying out for the Girls Golf Team please attend a meeting in D482 tomorrow. We will meet from 2:00 – 2:30. Any questions, please see Coach Boucher.
  • The Young Republicans will meet today after school in D268. New members welcome.

SOPHOMORES;

Today all sophomores are taking the CAPT test. Sophomores should have reported directly to their testing location at 7:20 a.m. Freshmen, Juniors, and Seniors are following their regular class schedule. All gym and health classes are meeting in the auditorium. Check in with your Roster teacher upon arrival to the auditorium.The Library Media Center will be closed and used for testing.

  • Read the latest DHS news by going to hattersherald.com. Corinne Philbin has a fine story and photos on our cheerleading squad, and our Twitter feed is now on the website. Thank you for your continued support.
  • There will be a mandatory meeting for the Spain, France, and Morocco trip tonight at 6:30pm in the LMC. Parents and guardians should attend.
  • Attention geography team members:   We will be meeting in Mrs. Riter’s room today. This is an important meeting ending with a geography challenge to determine teams for this year’s competition.

  • The final Baseball meeting will be today at 2:15 in the Old Gym. All interested in trying out MUST attend.

  • Congratulations to the boys track team for their outstanding performances at the New England Championships. Tim Moore, Trevor Reed, Jake Roberts and Terrell Cunningham were New England Champions in the 4×800.

  • Come find out about the Boys Outdoor Track and Field today right after school in the DHS cafeteria. There is a event for everyone in this sport! If you can’t attend, see Coach Murray in the boys’ PE locker room.
  • The Science National Honor Society will be meeting today in C529 from 2:10-3 pm. All members are required to attend since we will be listening to presentations by our senior members and discussing the community service project for the year.
  • High school musical CREW is canceled for today.
  • The Student Tutoring Center will be closed next Tuesday, March 1st. Students should report to the Library/Media Center.

  • Congratulations to the Boys Swim team for their 3rd place finish at the JV FCIAC Championships this past Saturday! The team had a score of 260 points. Some individual winners included Malcolm Going in the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Butterfly, and DJ Simmons in the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Breaststroke. Next up for the team will be the Class LL State Championships on March 12th.
