Fifty-seven years, 37 award nominations, 24 albums, 15 No. 1 singles, eight No. 1 albums and seven award wins. All of this is statistical legacy that the late musical legend Prince leaves behind.

But it’s the music and how it makes us feel, the memories that it makes us think of, the beat that makes us want to move, that is the real legacy of this pop legend.

Although his heydey was in the 1980s and 1990s, even our generation knows Prince and his music. That says a lot about his impact on the pop music scene.

Since he died at the age of 57 on April 21, the world over has mourned his death and continue to do so. His songs are again getting air time on the radio, his legendary performances such as the SNL 40 after-party are getting hits on Youtube, and his guest star stint on “New Girl” was rerun this week.

Prince was a unique artist in the way he danced, dressed and sang, and he rightfully became an icon soon after he was signed in 1977 to Warner Bros. Records.

Popular hits of his include: Purple Rain, Kiss, When Doves Cry and Little Red Corvette, which will continue to be timeless and classic works.

Through his music, Prince has touched many people and has influenced many artists, with the likes of Justin Timberlake, The Weeknd and Usher.

Overall, Prince was an artist that created music that everybody could enjoy a piece of — whether it’d be rock, pop or R&B.

So, if you don’t have any of his brilliance on your phone, put some on. If you already have his music, revisit it. It’s worth a listen, and always will be.
